They are not alone. The responsiveness of workers in this country has been dismantled piece by piece by a coalition of capital, government and the betrayal of the union bureaucracies, dependent on them after years of corrupt practices. Today
a labor reform is always a setback, but this was not always so. Today, May 1st, we commemorate, when thousands of U.S. workers were planted and were joined in 1886 by organizing a day of struggle for 8-hour workday: work less, work all.
In that struggle we remember the martyrs of Chicago, but we must remember that this mobilization achieved its objectives of both time, as awareness and class organization.
No magic bullets, but no solution: it is that class consciousness and internationalism and worker solidarity over any dispute, the best tool to protect workers from abuses of power. Only by participating
